Chapter Seven

Two Days Later

Everleigh

After wallowing in misery for a few hours, okay, a couple of days, I’ve got my head on straight. I have a job I love, great friends, and there are more men in the world. And someday, I’ll do something about it. But right now, I’m proud of myself for successfully pretending Victor doesn’t exist.

Knock. Knock. Someone taps on my door, and I glance up from the prospecting document I was studying.

My father winks. “How’s my little girl?”

Little girl. My brain freezes on the image of Victor gripping my ass under the schoolgirl uniform skirt while pounding into my sex. I shudder and swallow over the dryness in my mouth. “Everything’s good.” Don’t call him daddy. Nope. Can’t say that word.

“What’s got your attention this morning?” He marches into the room with the air of authority that has always been a part of him.

Even when I was a kid, and he was reading me a story, he exuded confidence. That’s probably why I have an unhealthy obsession with businessmen. Guys who slouch or live in their parent’s basements while playing videogames are non-starters for my libido.

“I’ve been researching other markets where new projects would be appropriate for expansion. After Las Vegas, of course.”

My dad frowns. “Have you spoken with Victor?”

Sweat dots my forehead. Stop. There’s no way he knows about Victor and me. Act cool. “Since when?”

He arches an eyebrow. “Since you met with Jax and him the other day.”

“No.” Since we’re discussing work, he doesn’t mean–did we trade insults and fuck like crazy people with loose morals. He means–have we discussed the club acquisitions.

My heart thuds in my chest, and my hands ball into fists. “He hasn’t signed the contract, has he?”

“No,” he sighs and rubs his hands on his charcoal gray slacks. “You need to talk to him and convince him this expansion is what the business needs.”

I jump up, hitting the edge of the desk with my thigh. Son of a bitch. I suck down a sharp breath. “He’s your business partner. Your minority business partner. You can tell him what to do.”

Is he doing this to get back at me?

“Everleigh.” He frowns, giving me the same look, he did when I was a seven-year-old girl wanting an extra cookie before dinner. “Victor is a grown man and owns forty percent of the company. I can’t tell him what to do. He’s not a child.” He straightens his shoulders. “This is your pet project. You need to discuss this with him and convince him expansion in Las Vegas is a sound business decision.”

“No.” I can’t. That defeats the entire purpose of pretending he doesn’t exist. If I talk to him, I can see him breathing. My head spins. And those hands. Thighs. His mouth. His tongue. Fuck. No, I can’t talk to him. “You do it.”

“Everleigh.” He slaps his hands on his hips. “I gave you a promotion, not because you’re my daughter, but because you’re an adult woman who’s proven herself in business. Don’t make me regret the decision two weeks after giving it to you.
